Sometime before the xmas break I went along with our 4th graders on a field trip to a local (government) school in our community. Of course the conditions and facilities were miles below our standards, although in our interaction with their students they had some really bright ones.
During my interaction with their teachers, there was mention of the desire to acquire IT training from our school if possible. I was immediately interested in the concept and through further communication with them we are starting a once a week IT training session for their teachers beginning on the first Thursday in March.
I am excited about being able to do something to help our community and really look forward to supporting these educators, techknowledge wise.

Elementary Typing Levels
Aug 24th, 2009 by papjeff
As IT specialist, I think appropriate typing goals for elementary students could be:
End of Grade 2 – Home row plus 8 others at 10wpm
End of Grade 3 – Most keys at 12wpm
End of Grade 4 – All keys at 15wpm
End of Grade 5 – All keys at 20wpm
Feedback from other educators on this matter would be appreciated.
